Tip
#1 |
|
Learn the fire department's emergency number, especially if
the community does not have 9-1-1 service. Make sure
that all family members know to escape the fire first, then
call the fire department from a neighbor's phone. |
 |
Tip
#2 |
| It is important to regularly discuss with the entire family
what to do in a fire. Every family member needs to
know what to do in case the entire family in not together
when a fire occurs. Also, awareness helps reduce fear
and ensures that all family members know what to do. |
 |
Tip
#3 |
| Establish two escape routes from every room in the house.
Escape ladders should be a consideration for sleeping areas
on upper floors. These ladders should be stored near
windows. |

WE
CAN'T HELP
YOU IF WE CAN’T FIND YOU!
Please make
sure your address is easily identifiable from the street.
Post large numbers in the front of your house or on your
mailbox. If not, this could delay the arrival of help in a
serious situation.
- Post
your address number at the front of the house where it is
clearly visible from the street.
- If you
have a curbside mailbox, place reflecting address numbers
on both sides of box.
- Install
a light fixture above the house numbers.
- Use
large, plain-numbers – not decorative script or other
hard-to-read lettering.
- Stick
with colors that contrast (black on white for example)
- Have
someone at the end of the driveway to direct the ambulance
