Record Snowfall Hits Delaware - New Castle County

Thursday, September 3, 2015
The State of Delaware was hampered with the first major snowstorm, which will turn out to compare with the biggest in state history. Town of Middletown and DelDOT employees are continuing efforts to plow local roadways. Residents should expect cleanup efforts today to be more extensive than usual. Yesterday, Governor Markell declared a state of emergency for New Castle and Kent counties at 3pm. The emergency will be lifted today at noon. A state of emergency means residents are strongly advised to stay indoors and take extra care. It also allows the governor to call on additional resources such as the National Guard to help. Residents are still being advised to stay off the roads if they can. Crews from the Volunteer Hose Company of Middletown were in the station from early Saturday morning throughout the storm responding to over 20 fire and medical calls. More information about the state of emergency can be seen at http://dema.delaware.gov/
