Cover Up Assignment Leads to First Due House Fire - Christiana, Delaware

Thursday, September 3, 2015

The Volunteer Hose Company of Middletown provided a cover up crew for Christiana Fire Company so their members could participate in a two day Officer Development Training program.  Middletown's assignment was on day two of the class, and the crew from 1-7 stood by Fire Station 6 on Porter Road in Bear from 8am until 4pm.

While there, the Christiana district was alerted for a house fire in the Chandeleur Woods neighborhood, which was within the first due area for Station 6.  Within minutes of dispatch, the crew from 1-7 was on scene with smoke showing from a single family residence from what appeared to be the basement area.  A 1.75" line was charged and FF Brackin and FF Langshaw led the fire extinguishment.  FF Adams and FF Debus initiated the primary search of the residence until additional help arrived.  Lieutenant Cataldi had the Christiana Command until Christiana Fire Chief Reeder (12-8) arrived on scene.

The Delaware State Fire Marshals office is investigating the source of the fire.
